I have been making money without working a 9-5 for the last 9 years as I was laid off in 2012. I’ve found out that working for someone else wasn’t the best option for me as I didn’t want to answer to a boss, have set hours, or be limited in my earning potential.

You may have the same preferences as I did back then and are wondering how you can make money without working a 9-5. There are actually a lot of ways that you can make a living without working at a 9-5 job but in order to successfully replace your income from a job, you have to really want it, and you have to be persistent, especially at the start.

Instead, of talking about the usual stuff that you may have already read online – make money ideas that are equally effective but will take years to come to fruition, I’ll talk about realistic ideas that could help you establish a career that makes money without necessarily punching in and out of a job.

If you’re ready to learn more, read on…

self-employed professionals

Back in 2013, when I was looking for ways to earn a living without a job as a new immigrant in Canada. I stumbled upon the financial services industry. With a background in accounting, I figured that I should have the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful in this career.

I took the Life License Qualification Program and earned my certification as a life insurance agent, as what most people call it. However, the license offers more than insurance sales as you have the capacity to offer all types of individual and group insurance, as well as savings and investments, thereby allowing you to operate as s full-pledged financial consultant to people who are looking to safeguard their financial security as well as build their future through long term investing.

I remember earning a gross commission of around $56,000.00 that year, which is more than most immigrant jobs would pay newcomers back then. Of course, as a self-employed, not all of it is profits as you have to take care of some overheads, like car costs such as fuel and maintenance, and other business-related expenses. But if someone told me that I can earn this kind of money without working a 9-5, I would have started this kind of career even before migrating to a new country.

There are a lot of options when it comes to becoming a self-employed professional in lieu of getting a 9-5 job. It’s going to be more challenging than simply working a 9-5 job because you have to find your own clients if this is the career path that you’re going to consider but if you fully understand the value that you are delivering to your prospective clients, you wouldn’t hesitate to go out there and prospect for new clients.

If this is something you feel that you can do, and you’re reading this article from Canada. I can help you get started in the industry as a financial security advisor.

Aside from the financial services industry, here are some other non-9-5 careers that you can consider:

Become A Realtor

A realtor is someone who helps people buy or sell properties. It’s a commission-based career but if you’re good at it, you can easily earn more than what most 9-5 jobs would pay. Realtors are usually self-employed but there are some who choose to be employed by a real estate company.

Similar to the financial services industry, you’re responsible for marketing yourself and generating your own leads. You’ll need to work long hours, especially if you’re just starting out, but it’s a great way to earn a good income without being tied down to a traditional job.

Become A Mortgage Broker

A mortgage broker is someone who helps people get loans to buy properties. As a mortgage broker, you’ll work with banks and other financial institutions to get your clients the best possible loan terms.

Like realtors, mortgage brokers are usually self-employed but there are some who choose to be employed by a mortgage company. The hours can be long and it can be a lot of work, but it’s a great way to earn a good income without being tied down to a traditional job.

Become An Immigration Consultant

An immigration consultant helps people with the sometimes complicated process of immigrating to another country. As an immigration consultant, you’ll need to have a good understanding of the immigration laws of different countries and be up to date on any changes.

You’ll also need to be able to deal with people from all walks of life, as some may be coming to you in a time of need. It’s a demanding job but it can be very rewarding, both emotionally and financially.

There are many other self-employed professional careers that you can consider, depending on your skill set and interests. The important thing is that you do your research first so that you know what to expect and you can be prepared for the challenges that come with being your own boss.
